LEGO MODEL BUILDING

I was lucky enough to have an amazing father with a LEGO art studio growing up, and as I got older I had the chance to be part of many interesting projects. Building the 4 towers of the city Ghent turned out to be a 3D learning course in proportions, balance and facade design, apart from being an amazing amount of fun, and some long working hours.

This is the biggest LEGO Mosaic I ever helped make, 4.8x3.6m! It is based on a painting of Pieter Paul Rubens, worship by the kings, but with a twist, the faces have been exchanged and some you might know, like Einstein,… There are about 120000 bricks inside and 360 work hours. Of course this was a team effort, with many long days at a table full of LEGO bricks and pizza!

The picture below was taken right before building THE ROOF, a nearly impossible 3D structure changing angle in every direction!

In the summer of 2020 we worked on a full model of a more sustainable city. It is not a new idea, but a collection of idea’s already put in practice, aiming to reduce the negative impact of the city on the environment and it’s people. This was done by 2 main concepts: bringing green areas all the way to the center of the city and separating traffic, taking most cars out of the residential areas. The city was moulded after the typical middle size Belgian town, with a historic centre and expanding neighbourhoods around.
